Four activities to get started

These are GRAZIA100.IT editorial suggestions that teachers may freely adapt; they are not official workshops of the programmes mentioned.

01
Podcast · 3–5 minutes

One voice, one landscape

Choose a passage, explain its context and record a short reading with a commentary. The result can be a short audio episode about a place in Deledda's work.

Suggested reading: Canne al vento.

02
Photography · Reportage

My Galte

Photograph scenes from your town or neighbourhood and compare them with descriptions of landscapes in the writer's work.

Suggested reading: Canne al vento e Cosima.

03
Writing · Workshop

One more page

Imagine a letter, diary entry or new viewpoint for a character, clearly distinguishing the original text from your interpretation.

Suggested reading: Elias Portolu or La madre.

04
Video · 60 seconds

Deledda in one minute

Make a short video presentation of a theme or place, citing the relevant book and the sources used.

Further reading: the biography and Nobel Prize.

Teaching resource

A 55-minute reading lesson

An independent activity that can be adapted to different class levels and requires no special equipment.

15 minutes · Understand

1. Enter the text

Read a short passage selected by the teacher and identify who is speaking, where they are and what problem they face. Ask students to distinguish explicit information from interpretation.

Prompt: the relationship between characters and landscape in Canne al vento.

20 minutes · Discuss

2. Two points of view

In small groups, propose two different explanations for a character's decision. Each group should support its reading with a specific detail from the work, without inventing quotations.

Prompt: origins and responsibility in Cenere o Elias Portolu.

20 minutes · Present

3. A new voice

Create a fact sheet, short audio piece or written comparison: what does the text say, how do we interpret it and what question remains open? Finish by naming the work, author and any sources used.

Prompt: calling and memory in Cosima.

Basic assessment: accuracy of comprehension, ability to justify interpretations, reliable sources and clarity of expression. Excerpts should be taken from the edition actually used in class.
Work that lasts

Read, then share.

A meaningful reading experience can continue after the final page: a small exhibition, podcast, library meeting or literary walk. Even simple activities can bring young people closer to books without reducing them to commemorative exercises.
